NaNoWriMo Report: Day 30

And done. 30 days, 54,452 words, 93 pages, and three bottles of port later, I'm finally done.
Not only did I make 50,000 words this year, I also broke several personal records. 2014 is when I wrote the most words for NaNoWriMo, and not once did I go below my daily goal of 1,667 words. This is quite an accomplishment for me.
I'm still not finished with the story, though. I plan to keep trying to write a little every day until I'm done, but not at the same breakneck pace as the past month. More like a page a day. I need to start focusing more on all the things I've been putting off, like getting enough sleep each night. I'm glad I had the past week off from work so I could focus on the final push to getting this done.
I will admit, there were many days were I felt like giving up on the day and writing less than my daily goal, but I'm glad I didn't. Going under the daily goal is demoralizing, and when you hit enough bumps in the road, it gets hard to keep going for the big goal of 50,000. Having the momentum of having not gone under the daily goal pushing you forward really helped as the days and weeks drag on.
Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the folks who kept cheering me on. For all of you who kept a close watch on how well I had been doing and gave me lots of encouragement, thank you (especially to my girlfriend Fox. I love you). Having people who are just as excited as you are about what you're doing helps immensely.
A special thank you goes to the folks at Supergiant Games for their work on Bastion, especially Logan Cunningham and his vocal performance as Rucks, the narrator. You don't know me, but your work helped inspire this one from the very beginning. When I first had the idea for this story back during the last week of October, I had was a new storyworld and the question "wouldn't it be fun to write a story like Rucks was narrating it?" Somehow it became all this. Amazing how these things work out.
Thank you everyone, and see you next year.
